Our history

The Canton Restaurant was established at 203 Charles Street, Launceston, Tasmania, by Scott Chung, the father of the current female boss (Dianna Chung), on April 26, 1961. In 1977, the current bosses, Noel Chung and Dianna Chung, married in Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania state. In 1979, they decided to move to Launceston to help out Dianna's father in Canton. After several years' work, when Scott decided to retire in 1986, they bought the Canton from him. In 1988, they renovated and expanded the old Canton, incorporating 201 Charles Street. This is the current Canton Restaurant.
